About Me
Lars-Gunnar Gustafsson is a Swedish full time photographer/photojournalist, working as freelancer to magazines and newspapers in Europe. Recently he was the staff photographer at “Car Owner? Sweden’s largest car- and leisure magazine, traveling extensively on assignments, both in Sweden and abroad.
In his early teens Lars-Gunnar Gustafsson was intrigued by photography and darkroom work. Although his camera work began early, his major visual interest during these formative years was drawing. One visuals interest seemed naturally leading to another, thus photography and drawing combined both his interests.
Like many young boys fascinated by art and visuals, he explored the possibility of making a living from his interests. Still in his young teens, he contacted the regional newspaper in his little town.
From then on his collaborative relationship with print media helped him build the necessary visual communication and journalistic skills that gradually led him toward more permanent employment opportunities.
Formal training includes the Army Photography School, but also a general journalism education at the renowned Skurups Folkhögskola. Due to this new experience he switched over for some time working on various newspapers as layout editor, and later (photo) reporter, eventually leading him to the position of assistant editor-in-chief.
Years later he got a one-year professional grant at Indiana University in the United States, giving him the opportunity to investigate both Journalism and Fine Arts photography.
His intense response to all kinds of visual communication eventually led him to layout editing as well as copy editing, which gave him the possibility of examining other aspects of journalism, leading to where he stands today working full time as a photographer and photojournalist.
